Named in honor of California’s first African American state legislator, the Frederick M. Roberts Scholarship, was established to increase college access and provide guided support to deserving California students in pursuit of their academic goals. A long tradition of the California Legislative Black Caucus, the scholarship is the continued commitment for direct investment in California’s youth.
California high school graduates
Class of 2026
- Provide written proof of acceptance at an accredited institution of higher learning for Fall 2026
- In good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 GPA or higher
Or
Full-time college students enrolled at an accredited College or University
- Provide most recent transcript and proof of enrollment for Fall 2026
- In good academic standing with a minimim 2.5 GPA or higher

- Two (2) short essay responses
- Two (2) signed recommendation letters
- Letters must be dated within the last 90 days and specific to this scholarship
- One recommendation from a community member not related to you
- One recommendation from a school official
